Mission: The Secret of Corvus

Luna's presence radiated with a quiet power, a manifestation of the cosmic forces she harnessed that she was unaware of even as she slept but the woke with a start and looked around the room confused. It looked the same but something was wrong she could not remember going to sleep but it had not been the first time it had happened. As Luna stretched her limbs, she felt the weight of the power around her. What had happened for her to feel like she had forgotten something important as she sat up and took in the sleeping form in the chair. What was he doing there? Why had he not come to bed with her? Was she unwell? Had she used too much power and burned herself out?

His dark eyes opened a fraction, noting her awakened state. Kayge sat up, carefully studying her expression and body language. He sensed confusion and surprise, but not mistrust. At least, not yet. The Emperor's words still rang in his head; a stark warning that she needed to be watched and managed carefully, lest she fall out of favour with him.

"You seemed to sleep for a long time, Lunandria. How were the dreams this time?" he asked, continuing to watch her expression for clues.

Lunandria smiled sleepily at the man despite her confusion at him being there and not next to her. She shifted over on the large bed and patted the space next to her to give him permission if he wanted to join her.

"I do not remember them." It was not an unusual one when she was plagued by strange dreams but she always assumed it was glimpses of her life before the Empire had saved her or something connected to her magic. "The chair looks uncomfortable there Kayge. What are you doing here? Have I been unwell? Did I use too much of my magic against the Rangers?" She asked quietly

"Perhaps," he answered cryptically. "Fewer dreams means a more restful sleep." He slowly stood from the chair, still watching her despite the discomfort of having remained in one place too long. In spite of her offer, however, he did not join her and instead remained standing nearby. "We should hope that such things continue."

Luna watched the man carefully noticing the way he did not join her or get any closer than hovering close by. He did not do that normally unless she had done something wrong but for the life of her she did not know what it was. She was sure that she had been everything the empire had needed and more.

“I hope so. The dreams are exhausting, who wants to be running in your dreams when you remember them.” She murmured. “So what about you? How come you stayed over there? You can join me.” She wondered aloud as she shifted to the edge of the bed leaning over to pull a dressing gown to cover herself better.

Kayge remained physically distant for the moment. "We are weapons for the Emperor. I would prefer-" He hesitated, choosing his words particularly carefully. "I would prefer that you recover fully before exerting yourself any further on my account. We may still be called-upon to visit his wrath upon his enemies."

Luna did not like the distance but she had to trust him that he knew what he was doing or at the very least it was thought out enough that he could deal with the consequence. “Unlikely he has sent that time changing monster but suit yourself.” It was a genius move and one that she was finally glad had been taken but its success lay in the perfect moment to change. She rose and tapped the thin material around herself. She would have used magic normally or not cared but he was acting so distant.

His dark eyes continued to watch and observe, silently at least for now. For the longest time he had cared for Lunandria deeply; as a mentor, and as a lover. But the Emperor's instructions had complicated matters. His loyalty and oath were normally unquestioning, even in the darkest moments. Yet the requirement on him to play the role of leash to the woman he had grown so fond of...

"Do you need something to eat?" he finally asked, hoping to allay any of her fears that he was somehow no longer interested.

Luna looked over and shook her head. "Did the time change affect us?" She wondered wrapping the tie before she moved to where she kept her books. She hated to call them spell books as there was so much more to them than spells but she idly flicked through a page to occupy herself.

Kayge shook his head. "We are protected here." He continued to watch her. "Did you feel something change? While you were asleep?"

Luna flicked through until she found the page with the monster that had been created on. It was brilliant work and she was jealous of who had created it. “No I… it doesn't matters I guess. You say nothing has changed.” She answered distracted by reading the page. “Maybe I am hungry after such a long sleep.” She admitted closing the book with a sigh as she leant heavily on the desk.

"I will arrange for food," he said simply, starting to stand up. They almost bumped into each other as he began to leave, their faces close together for a moment. He looked down at the floor, then at her face. "Do not fear," he murmured. "Everything will be back to normal now."

The woman stared back at him, her expression cool as she buried all the contusion and uncertainly deep down inside and nodded. “I will wait and see if that is the truth.” She said quietly stepping back to let him leave as she looked away. It was not until she was alone that the mask slipped and she blinked away the tears. She did not have much time to gather herself and gather herself she needed to do and quickly.
