Crash Landing

3,232 words; about a 16 minute read

Mission: The Invasion
Location: Angel Grove City Centre
Timeline: 1930 Hours, November 14th 2050

The conversation between the now red, pink and blue ranger silenced leaving the console flying in low earth orbit quiet and contemplating what the next move was. But it was not every day that Kilena made an error of judgement but with how tired she was it was going to happen. Not even the power could keep her awake as long as she had been awake.

“What the hell.” She cried as looked at the shuttle controls and watched them light up with an impact on the left side sending them into a spin that she could not get them out of even if she had been as full of energy and not tired. “Crash landing. Brace for impact.” She screamed.

"Hang on to something!" Damien yelled, gripping onto a bar attached to the wall "This is why I hate flying..."

Spencer glared at the others behind his helmet as he strapped into his seat, hoping for the best as the alarm bells rang at an ear-splitting volume. This was exactly why he didn't like the idea of space travel. It never ended smoothly - and this might be the one landing he didn't walk away from. And yet, he'd always felt there was a power waiting for him before he could go to space. He'd found that power now - he was a Ranger. Maybe they had a chance to get through this. "That was anti-air destroying our port engine! We're going way too fast to ditch safely! Someone with a radio, call Command and report our status!"

Kilena glared in the general direction of the blue ranger as their passengers stirred at the alarms and noise from the rangers. “I know. We have no radio working just hold on.” Kilena said as she leant forward bracing herself but the impact was a lot more than she expected as they hit first the tree line then earth finally. She had tried her best to use the trees to cushion them but flying without an engine was not easy. The console exploded around her shattering her morph but leaving her to fight another day apart from cuts, scrapes and winded on her knees.

"Are you okay?" Damien asked as he moved over to her, quickly looking her over, the heads up display in his helmet confirming the answer "The damage is cosmetic. I'd say take it easy but that's not an option right now."

"Never an option but yes I think so... the power should heal me quick enough," Kilena said surprised as he came over to her and nodded. They had no option as the person that had got them would now be coming down to find them. "Just help me up," Kilena whispered using him to stagger to her feet.

"Hang back here for a minute." He said once he was sure she was stable, before moving towards the door "I'm going to see what's going on."

Being smaller than average and entirely not used to this whole flying around being shot at thing, Ellie was slow to respond to the warnings. She just about made it to a seat, but the crash definitely knocked her about. As things settled, she felt the bruise forming on her forehead. Thankfully nothing was seriously broken, but they'd be feeling that one for a couple of days. "First you bring me on this silly adventure of yours, then you go and crash..." she grumbled quietly. "What happened?"

The crash was highly unpleasant, but Federation Patrol ships were built for safety. Spencer unstrapped himself from the seat and stood, looking around, noticing the civvie who had been brought with them, she was injured. He went over and made sure she was okay. “We took enemy fire and crashed, that’s what happened. But we’re still all here. The enemy probably wants what the guy before did. And they’re about as likely to get it.”

He reached for one of the First Aid kits. “I’m not a great medic. But there’s painkillers and bandages in there. Stay here. Patch yourself up. If there’s an opening, run for safety. If not, there are rifles in the rear compartment. Just point it at something ugly and pull the trigger.”

Kilena leant over and grabbed a painkiller from the box taking it quickly to get something in her system from the impact and pain in her head.

Ellie, still shaking a little, just nodded silently and fiddled with the kit as the others bumped around the compartment.

"Shut up." Kilena shot having some sense that suddenly they needed to be quiet as if she felt something was coming the split second before she saw a figure outside through the smoke that looked human despite the jungle that was out there, purple and red against green gave them away she assumed. "Shh..." She repeated ducking down as she listened to the noises outside.

"Come out... come out where ever you are Rangers." A female voice called and the unmorphed pink ranger looked at the red ranger and mouthed 'the dominatrix'. Her accent was unique enough to give her away.

Having no idea who this was, all Spencer could think to do was ready his weapon. The folding blade attached quickly to the barrel of his main blaster. He wasn't going to get caught with his proverbial pants down, at least.

"She's not the one I want. But she'll do for a warm-up." Damien growled "Tend to the injured, make sure the girl's safe. That's an order."

He stood up, walking outside, his sword materialising in his right hand in a flash of red energy.

"You know, it's rude to trash someone else's home." He called as the Woman came into view, pointing his sword at her "You asked for the Rangers. Well, here I am. Where's your boy toy? The one who stole my look?"

"He is not my boy toy. And you stole his look... he is a lot more adequate with his look than you." Luna said as she saw red appear in front of him.

Kilena watched Luna appear and crawled over to the pair that were civilians and smiled reassuringly. They were going to have to keep her secret seeing it was hard to not work out she was the pink ranger now. "Move towards the back. Can you go and help him please." Kilena said to the blue ranger. He could meet the evil dominatrix. She could cope with two civilians.

Spencer looked at her, and thought for a moment. He knew Damien wouldn't be happy with the decision if he abandoned them - but she'd be upset if he left the Red Ranger to fight his own battles. Still, Kilena was 'the injured', and the girl was, well, the girl. Wordlessly, he started to head toward the front of the ship, up toward Damien and his fight - then doubled back when Kilena and Ellie were already certain he was out of the way. Whatever trouble they got into, he'd be there. He took orders seriously.

As the duo shifted to the back of the crashed ship, Ellie noticed a chunk of the wall missing and an opening to escape through. Although she was nervous about going out there, she figured it was better than staying inside where the bad people knew they would be. Squeezing through the gap she turned and offered Kilena a hand to follow.

Just as she'd pulled the other woman through, a shadow loomed over them blocking out the sunlight. Both women blinked as a muscular, black-masked Kaldor solder stood over them.

"Oh..." Ellie squealed.

"Going somewhere?" Kayge growled.

"Very much so." Kilena did the only thing she could think of in such a vulnerable position and leapt at the man around the legs sending them both tumbling away from Ellie. The pink ranger staggered to her feet.

Wordlessly, Kayge slammed a gauntlet into her body. Hard.

"Sh..." The pink ranger as she was slammed back into the shuttle and the cargo smashing the boxes sending the cargo rolling. Kilena knew this was all going to hurt as she noticed the crystals go flying. No wonder they had been targeted with them onboard, it was like they were lit up like a year-end celebration tree. "So do you always hit girls?" Kilena wondered distracting the man from what she had seen.

"Hngh..." Kayge growled again, ignoring the jibe as his eyes began tracking to the other one.

Ellie felt the gaze turn to her even though she was trying to get away, but it was no use: the scary man had his attention on her. Desperately, she looked for something to protect herself with. There were things scattered all over the floor around her, but none that looked like an actual tool or weapon. Her eyes landed on a small glittering object, almost within her reach. Strange - it almost felt like it was trying to get her attention. But that was impossible, right?

"Grab it," Kilena called to the passenger as she moved forward to block this man from getting to them. "It's Morphing Time.... pink ranger power." She yelled morphing to even the odds.

Kayge snarled, extending his hand and forming an obsidian scimitar out of the air. With a flourish, he brought the blade down on the pink ranger as she morphed. A slash that would have gravely wounded anyone without protection.

Shaking, Ellie reached out for the glowing crystal, stretching her fingertips...

Kayge shoved the pink ranger aside, seeing the crystal as well. He moved forward, raising his blade into the air.
As the blade came down, Ellie's hand closed around the emerald crystal. Her eyes clamped shut, expecting the cut of the sword. Instead she felt an incredible surge of power, unlike anything she had ever experienced before. It was as though the world somehow came into complete focus all in one second, new strength and confidence began to course through her as she finally opened her eyes and felt the energy permeate through her entire body.

Kayge had hesitated. Before him, instead of a cowering little girl, crouched another Power Ranger. This one bearing a green suit that he had not encountered before.

"Now you are in trouble," Kilena said surprised to see the green ranger herself. She had thought she had gone for the yellow crystal but who was she to judge. A ranger was a ranger in her eyes.

Reacting to this new development, Kayge took two steps back.

"I guess he's not ready for two of us, huh?" Ellie said, glancing at Kilena. "Wanna tag team this one?"

"Two girls... one boy... poor thing," Kilena said as she showed the new green ranger how to call the solar weapon leaving it in Saber Mode. There could be time later to work on the other mode and way to combine the weapon but for now, it would be easy to fight him with their own swords and keep him away from the other passenger if he came out of the shuttle.

As the two women morphed and the enemy was starting to figure out how to oppose them, Spencer decided to remind the alien of what pack-hunting meant. Usually, in a wolf pack, it was the females who were more dangerous - and in a stand-up fight, he was sure Kilena was in contention as the deadliest one of the bunch. But right now, he was the unseen one. They were protecting the other civilian inside, which gave him the opening he needed. He'd found the way out, and slipped out quietly in the commotion of a new Ranger morphing. He leapt forward from behind Kayge, the claw weapon ready to strike at the invader's shoulder and disable the being's weapon arm. He looked down at the weapon, and saw a flat circle like the one on the morpher. He recognized a charger when he saw one, based on some of the more unique weapons he'd fought with in the past. He looked at the girls. "Use the Crystal on your weapon, it'll power it up! Let's take this bastard down!"

"I think not," Luna said as she kicked the red ranger into the clearing. She glanced at the four rangers and frowned as she saw that they had added a green version.

"You know, you actually pack a punch." Damien said, dragging himself to his feet "Mildly impressed."

"You said you could handle one little girl," Luna said glancing at Kayge. She was sure that he could handle one little girl but one pink ranger seemed to be out of his scope at the moment.

"I mean, you're putting words in my mouth. Really that should be my move here." Damien retorted as he cocked the crystal in his morpher and took aim "Solar morpher! Leo blast!"

He pressed the button on the side of the black handle, a large blast of red energy firing. A Lion head formed at the front of the blast, before being blocked moments before it could hit Luna by a curved blue blade as the figure of Roluga appeared, the red energy of the blast slowly pulsing on the curved blade on his right forearm. He stood there, examining the energy.

"Impressive..." He growled, before hurling the energy back at Damien, the explosion sending the Red Ranger hurtling to the ground as Roluga began to slowly advance on the figure that was now struggling to climb to his feet, the blade on Roluga's arm extending "It's nothing personal, boy. Just war. If I don't kill you, the Emperor doesn't get that crystal of yours' and if he doesn't get that, I don't keep my head. Time to go..."

As the blade swung down, it clashed with another, deflecting away.

"Hang on, Damien!" Ellie cried, her solar weapon now in spear mode. Somehow, anyway; it was like an instinct had kicked in the moment she had felt the bond with the crystal. The courage to jump in and help had driven that connection to these Ranger abilites. She spun the spear around and pushed Roluga back, for the moment putting herself between Damien and harm. "We got you! At least...I think we got you..."

"Lucky," Kilena whispered to Damien as she pulled him to his feet. She did not get any more chance to speak as drones appeared in the clearing outmatching them further.

"We've got to get to him!" Damien yelled, picking up his sword, watching as the drones continued to swarm "We can't leave him behind!"

“Which one?” Kilena said looking around trying to see where they could get to, to regroup and assess the situation properly.

"Blue boy. What's his name..." Damien replied, looking around to try to find his opening "Shit..."

Kilena looked around in the chaos and shook her head. She did not see the woman from before out of the corner of her eyes until it was too late as the woman stabbed at her with the crystal staff sending her flying into the blue ranger knocking him to the floor. Lunandria just laughed as she watched the rangers.

"Leave them alone!" Damien yelled, raising his morpher "Let them go right now..."

"Oh I don't think your friends are going anywhere red ranger," Lunandria said showing the blood on her staff. Kilena looked up from where she was lying confused as she looked at where she had been stabbed. How was that possible? She wondered to herself as she saw the woman who seemed impossible turn to Damien.

"No..." Kilena cried as she de morphed. Lunandria laughed as she saw that now they were impossibly outnumbered by the bots.

Kilena fell back with stab wound, and Spencer was there to catch her, but unfortunately got taken down to the ground himself - but crucially, he still hadn't unmorphed. He looked at her, and at the wound. It was deep - the woman who'd done it knew what she was doing. If they didn't Kilena to a medic and quick, she'd have real trouble healing. As it was, it didn't look like something that could be solved quickly. All he could do was apply pressure, both from the side and the top, to stop her from bleeding to death. He'd seen stab wounds like hers, and knew how quickly they could be lethal. "We'll get you to a medic, just hold on. You're gonna be okay."

"That is how you do it..." Luna said as she turned to the red ranger to finish them off a orange flash hit her first then hit her companion.

"What?" Roluga growled "Show yourself, or I will destroy everyone here!"

“You won’t do that when five against you now.” A male voice said from above revealing an orange ranger standing there on the roof of the shuttle.

“He is right.” Lunandria hissed annoyed that the ranger had his own weapon levelled on them. The Orange Ranger looked the group over and shook their head. They would learn or they would die, it was too late for them to back down now that the crystals had bonded they were just lucky today that the Orange Ranger had been observing things. "So what will it be?" The voice underneath the helmet asked giving the duo a choice of what they wanted to do, stay and fight or flee.

"Fall back!" Roluga yelled in anger before disappearing in a flash of purple and blue energy.

"Curse you...this was an arrogant plan..." Kayge snapped, regrouping alongside Lunandria. A second later they also followed his lead in disappearing into an energy vortex.

"Thanks for the assist." Damien called out to the Orange Ranger "I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't shown up."

The Orange Ranger turned back to the group and rolled their eyes. "You guys are in so much trouble. Would not like to be in your position explaining how two became four." They said pulling out a device activating it and throwing it to the red ranger. Their friends would find them quickly enough with that homing beacon and get them some medical aid. "Your friends will find you and get her help." With a final shake of their head, they disappeared in an orange flash.

Spencer looked up when he heard about a beacon and a medic. That was all that he needed to know right now - but the Power Rangers were illegal. "Alright, someone come over here and take over the pressure while I unmorph - I'm not moving my hands until there's others there ready; then we get the first aid kit and get the antiseptic in there fast. I've seen and taken some stab wounds before - this one's deep; it could leave a scar. Whoever or whatever that alien woman is, she's an experience fighter - and she's cruel."

"Here..." Ellie's costume disappeared in a flash as she jumped to Kilena's side and took over the pressure. She knew a little about first aid, but deep stab wounds were beyond anything she was used to. She looked up at Spencer and Damien. "We can't stay here, can we? Is help coming?"

"Yeah, they'll be here soon." Damien said, his suit disappearing in a red flash "Come on. We need to get her to a triage centre now."
